Patent field codes
Patent documents are structured into well-defined sections, called patent fields. To narrow your patent search results, you can focus your query statement on specific patent fields.
Table of patent fields codes
The table displays the following columns:
- Patent field code. The patent field code is an abbreviation of the full patent field name, used when entering directly into the query box. For example, Jane Smith <IN> AGT will select all patents that have Jane Smith as the Patent Agent. Here, AGT is the patent field code for Patent Agent.
- Patent field name. This is the full name of the patent field.
- Text field (Yes/No). "Yes" or "No" indicates whether a patent field is treated as a text field in searches. If yes, then this field is targeted when you search All available text fields. Bibliographic patent fields, such as Publication Number and Application Date, are nontext fields.
- Column is included in patent list results table (Yes/No). "Yes" or "No" indicates if the information for the corresponding patent field can be displayed as a column in the Patents table. Also see customizing the Patents table.
- Can be selected from the patent field list (Yes/No). "Yes" or "No" indicates whether you can select a patent field from the list. If you cannot select it from the list, you can always type it directly into the query box as a code.
- Patent field type. This is a general description of the type of patent field.
