Filtering search results
To display the filters panel, click FILTER RESULTS at the left of your search results. To hide the filters panel, click FILTER RESULTS BY at the top of the panel.
Use the filters panel to selectively filter the results that are returned for your query.
Available filters are displayed in the following filter categories (you might see any in this list):
- Content Classes
- Publication Date
- Publisher
- Publication
- Author
- Knowledge Collections
- Folder Tree
- Modification Date

File Extension
- Site or Domain
- Standard Class
- ICS Code
- FSC Code
- Accuris Segment
- File Type
- Document Language
Natural language processing (NLP) extracted metadata
Along with filter categories listed above, Goldfire's natural language processing technology extracts references to following filter categories from the body of documents (you might see any in this list):
- Referenced Locations
- Referenced People
- Referenced Organizations
- Referenced Educational Institutions
- Referenced Geological Times
When you select one or more items from these filter categories, references to the item are highlighted in the sentence citation in documents that are a part of your search results.
When you conduct a wildcard search that contains a reference to an item from one of the above filters, that item is highlighted in the search results.
Goldfire's NLP technology also extracts the following from the document body:
- Keywords (refers to the main ideas, concepts, arguments of a document)
indicates a collapsed filter category.
indicates an expanded filter category.
To collapse the list of filters in any filter category
- Click the category title (for example, Content Classes).
To expand a collapsed filter category
- Click the category title.
To display a ToolTip for that filter category
- Hover the pointer over a category title.
Filtering your search results
To filter your search results, select the check boxes of the filters that you want to apply, and then click Refresh Results to apply the filters.
Click More at the bottom of the filter category to display more filters than are shown in the filters panel.
indicates that you have selected a filter but have not yet applied it to your results.
indicates that you have applied the selected filter to your results.
indicates that you have selected some but not all of the knowledge bases in a content class.
To select all the filters that you see listed below a filter category, select the Select all from below check box.
To clear your selected filters from a filter category, click Clear in the title of the category. You can also clear applied filters by clicking any at the top of the Answers and Citations list. To clear all of your selected filters in all filter categories, click Clear All at the top of the filters panel.
Filtering your search results by content classes
The list of Content Classes is the first category that is shown in the filters panel:
- Codes & Standards
- Engineering Books
- Patents & Applications
- Other Accuris Sources
- Articles & Journals
- Corporate
Numbers of results are shown at the right of each of the content classes.
- To display a detailed graph of the distribution of results in any content class, click
at the right of the numbers of results. Click Distribution by knowledge bases to display a detailed graph of the distribution of results from all selected knowledge bases.
- When you click to display a graph of distribution results, the Results Distribution window is displayed for the content class (or for all knowledge bases) that you select. In the Results Distribution window you can do the following:
- Select the check boxes of knowledge bases by which to filter your search results.
- Hold the cursor over the name of a knowledge base to display information about it.
- Export the Results Distribution list as a table to an Excel file (XLSX), a CSV file, a Microsoft Word document (DOCX), or a PDF document.
Filtering your search results by date
You can filter your search results by two date categories:
- Publication Date
- Modification Date
To select a single year as a filter, click In.
To select a date range, do one of the following:
- Click Between, and then type the beginning date and the ending date in the boxes.
- Move the date sliders to select the beginning and ending dates.
Some documents might not have dates.
You can filter the selection of documents to include:
- Only documents that have dates
- Only documents without dates
Filtering your search results based on their location in your network
If you are working with documents in your search results, and these documents are a part of your network shares, you can use the Document Locationfilter to see exactly where these documents are located in your network. Goldfire displays all the machines (and also all the folders) in your network where documents from your search results are stored. By locating the exact folder (and the exact machine) in which a document from your search results is stored, Goldfire empowers you to uncover other, related documents that are stored in the same folder that might be related to and relevant for a document you are working with that is your search results.
- Click on the name of filter to expand it.
- (Optional) Click More to view the full list of machines and specific folders in your network shares that host documents from your search results.
- Select one or more check boxes to filter documents by where they are located in your network shares. You can filter by the machines that make up your network shares and you can also filter by the folders that are housed in these various machines.
You can also elect to work with documents in your search results that are stored in your networks shares via the Document Source filter.
- Select the Network Shares check box under the Document Sources filter, which opens the Network Shares window.
- Select the check box for one or more machines (or one or more folders) to display only documents stored in those specific machines (or folders).
