Working with answers and citations

Search results are shown in a list of Answers & Citations at the left.

The Answers & Citations list displays a list of results that are returned for your current query. Working with the Answers & Citations list, you can do the following:

• View one or more pages of results
• View the source documents from which the results are extracted
• View summaries of source documents
• Save search results to My Data or to a file on your hard disk
• Translate the results to other supported languages
• Sort search results by relevance, modification date, or publication date

By default, up to 10 results are displayed in the list of search results. To change the number of displayed results per page, click Results per page on the bar above the results. You can display up to 10, 20, 50, 75, or 100 results per page.

if you choose to display larger numbers of results per page, (50, 75, or 100, for example), you can expect a longer delay between the time that you submit your query and the time that results are returned.

For any search, a maximum of from 200 to 1000 results can be displayed from each knowledge base category, where each result is from a different document. In addition, each document can have from 200 to 1000 results. To view all results that were found in a specific document, click the multiple results link for that document in the list of primary results.

Here is an example of one result from an Answers & Citations list:

Each result can include one or more of the following:

• (For results from Accuris content, patents, and articles) A link that opens the full text of the patent or article, with the extracted sentence highlighted.
• (For results from Accuris content, patents, and articles) A patent or article title.
• (For results from corporate knowledge) A link that opens the source document in the program where it was created, with the extracted sentence highlighted
• (For results from Scientific Effects) An effect or example title link that opens the description, with the extracted sentence highlighted. To view a description of an effect or example, click the title link in the results window. The description opens with the relevant sentence highlighted.
• Name of the knowledge base where the source document is located.
• An answer to an expressed or implied question that is suggested by your query.
• A sentence citation, which is a relevant sentence or sentence excerpt that matches your query, with your query words highlighted.
• A link that lists other references, or More Matches, to your query in the document.
• A link that lists other results from similar documents.
• A link that displays a summary of the source document.
• If you see at the left of the citation, click it to go to the store where you can order a copy of the source document.
• If you see at the left of the citation, it means you need a subscription or a purchase in order to open the source document.

If the total number of results exceeds what can be displayed in the list, page numbers are shown at the top of the results area:

• To go to a specific page, click the desired page number.
• To scroll the pages sequentially, click the Back or the Forward arrow located at either end of the page number sequence.

You might want to apply the same set of filters to conduct multiple searches, and Goldfire provides an easy way for you to use the same filters for more than one query by allowing you to pin a selection of filters to be used for a new query. When you conduct a query with specific filters already applied, a pin icon appears next to the selected filters at the top of your search results. Click to turn it .  This pins the filters you have selected for your search so that they are applied to your next query. Once you pin your selected filters, you can conduct new queries and Goldfire applies those selected filters to new searches. If you conduct a query with a set of pinned filters and you apply a new filter to your query, then Goldfire un-pins your filter selection. In this case, you can re-pin your filter selection (with the new one you included).

Goldfire enables you to copy a link to the path of a document in your search results so you can easily access this document and related meta data. Click next to the title of a document in your search results to make a copy of a link of the document path. This link is a copy of the document path file, and it takes you to the origin page of the document. If you share this link with another Goldfire user, they must be signed into their account to fully access this link. You can also click the next to the Folder Path, which is located in the meta data details of a document in your search results. In this case, you are copying a link to parent page or folder to a specific document.

Goldfire enables you to sort all your results by: relevance, modification date, or publication date. Click Sort by above your search results to select how you want to sort your search results. The option to sort by modification date is available only if you are searching in corporate content (you only select the Corporate check box in Select where to search). The option to sort by publication date is available only if you are searching hosted content (you select the Accuris Content, Articles, Patent check boxes in the Select where to search). If you conduct a query in both corporate and hosted content, then you can only sort by relevance.

When a single document contains multiple references to your query term, only the first most relevant result from this document is included in the primary results window. A link appears below the document title in the primary results list that specifies the number of results, or More Matches that pertains only to this document. Click the link to view these other matches.

Multiple results, or More Matches, per document are extracted only in natural language searches.

For corporate sources that appear in your search results, you can specify the number of More Matches (up to 200) that you want displayed for each corporate source. In your user profile, select the number of matches you want to see in the drop-down list next to Number of More Matches for corporate sources. For other document sources, you will see between 3-10 other matches to your query in a single document. This number varies and is based on the source of the document you are working with.

When there are results from documents that are similar to the document whose citation is shown, only the first result from these documents is included in the primary results window.

Click <n> Similar Documents below the citation to display a list of similar documents for this citation.

To return to the list of main results, click Go back to main results at the top of the list.

the semantic engine determines the similarity of documents, not the similarity of results. In the list of primary results you might see very similar or even identical sentence citations. This is because these similar citations are from documents that Goldfire considers to be dissimilar.

1. Move the cursor over a citation.
2. Move the cursor over   at the right of the citation. A short summary of the document appears.

You can save your search results to My Data. You save items to a named collection of data in My Data. A collection is like a folder that contains your saved items. Anything you save to My Data is stored on the Goldfire Server.

To save search results to My Data

1. Click Save at the bottom of a citation or at the bottom of the list of citations.
2. Click Save to My Data.
3. In the Save to My Data dialog box, select an existing collection, or add a new collection.
4. If your result set fills more than one page, choose whether to save only the results that are displayed on the current page, or to save all browsable results (between 200 and 1000 results) that are returned on all pages. (The number of browsable results is set by your Goldfire administrator.)
5. Click Save.

You can also export your search results to a file on your hard drive.

1. Click Save at the bottom of a citation or at the bottom of the list of citations.
2. Click Export.
3. In the Export Results dialog box, select one of the following file types:
• CSV
• Excel
• Word
• PDF
4. If your result set fills more than one page, choose whether to export only the results that are displayed on the current page, or to export all browsable results (between 200 and 1000 results) that are returned on all pages. (The number of browsable results is set by your Goldfire administrator.)
5. Click Export.
6. Follow the directions that your browser gives you for downloading data to a file.

If the Language Pack is installed, you can have your search results translated from one or more languages into the language that you specify. You specify your translation options using the Translation link at the top of the results area.

In the results area, all results in the languages that you chose for translation are translated into the language that you selected.

Search results can be translated into English, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese from the original results.

To change your translation options

1. Click the Translation link to open the Define Translation Options dialog box.
2. From the Translate into list, select the language into which you want your results to be translated.
3. Under Translate from, select the check boxes of the languages that you want translated. Clear the check boxes of the languages that you do not want translated.
