  • Articles collections
  • Patents collections
  • Corporate knowledge bases

The Researcher page provides precision research and analysis capabilities by leveraging the following:

  • Goldfire 's advanced language-processing technology, which is especially designed to extract concepts from innovation content.
  • Goldfire 's innovation content, which includes collections of pre-indexed Accuris Content (including the proprietary database of cross-disciplinary Scientific Effects ), collections of pre-indexed articles, and collections of pre-indexed worldwide patents. In addition, administrators can index Deep Web sites into corporate knowledge bases. These corporate knowledge bases can be searched with Goldfire.

Available knowledge sources

You search in your knowledge sources by entering queries on the Researcher page. You might have the following knowledge sources available for research and analysis with Goldfire:

  • Accuris content, including Standards Expert, ESDU, GlobalSpec Product Selection Guides, and iSuppli. Accuris content also includes the Accuris Scientific Effects database, which contains over 9,000 unique scientific effects and examples, making it the largest scientific library in the world. Its unique cross-disciplinary, function-oriented organization provides indispensable problem-solving power for innovation professionals.
  • Patent documents from USPTO, EPO, WIPO, and JPO can be searched. PDF images of original patents are available from search results. Patent collections are pre-indexed, presummarized, and updated weekly by Accuris.
  • Accuris's pre-indexed collections of Articles, including IEEE articles, PubMed abstracts, Springer articles, Institute of Physics articles, and many more.
  • Corporate documents and internet content , including the Deep Web servers that are inaccessible to conventional web searches. Corporate knowledge bases can be created at companies that have installed a corporate Goldfire Server. The Goldfire Administrator web client is used to create corporate knowledge bases.

Searching English and non-English content sources

If the Language Pack is installed, administrators can build and search both English and non-English corporate knowledge bases, and you can search English and non-English content on the Researcher page.

Cognitive Search

Goldfire provides you with a set of cognitive search features that enhance and better support your search experience. Content must be indexed (or reindexed if already indexed) for the following cognitive search features to take effect:

  • Boolean-Free Searching - enables users to search all metadata associated with documents without Boolean operands. This means that users do not need to type <and> and <in> operands in their searches. Examples of fields to which you might apply Boolean-free searching are: file name, file extension, and other high-importance fields. Users simply type keywords and Goldfire returns relevant matches.

The exception to Boolean-free searching is queries related to dates, which requires the use of Boolean operands.

  • Wildcard Searching - enables users to replace characters in the words of their query with an asterisk (*). You can use the wildcard mode of searching to search for metadata associated with the documents. Examples of fields to which you might apply wildcard searching are: file name, folder, document type, etc.

Wildcard searching does not apply to searching for content within the document body. However, a number of  filter categories exist to address this, and enable you to search for metadata from within document body that is extracted by natural language processing technology.

  • Improved PDF Searching - Goldfire detects and  categorizes the content of a PDF document into logical fields (Table, Figure, etc.), which enables users perform more effective queries by using these fields as advanced filters in the query.

Exact Search

Goldfire enables you to  target your query to an exact term or phrase when you contain the contents of your search within quotation marks. This search capability allows you to conduct queries with precision. Documents with content in the document title and/or in the document body that exactly matches your query are returned in the results list. Furthermore, this search capability is enabled for all the languages that are supported by Goldfire.  If you want take full advantage of the exact search functionality as you search for relevant documents in your existing corporate and personal knowledge bases, then it is necessary to rebuild them.
