Analyzing a technology
Use Analyze technology to identify companies that are involved in developing a specific technology, and to view their innovation profiles to assess the value of their technology.
To analyze a technology
- On the main menu, click Patents: Innovation Trend Analysis.
- Under I want to, click Analyze technology.
To generate a technology profile
- In the Technology box, type a query that specifies the technology that you are interested in:
- You can further focus your search by specifying one or more patent field Filters. If you are entering criteria for one or more patent fields, click Add Filter. For more information about filtering by patent fields, see Fielded search.
If you do not know the exact name of the technology, you can formulate your technology query to describe the situation where the technology is applied, or you can describe the main problem that the technology solves (the designated function of the technology). See Tips for formulating technology queries for examples.
- To enter a complex keyword query manually, click Use advanced mode, and then enter your query in the Filters box. As you type, you can click
to select additional filters (assignees, dates, patent classes, cities, states, countries), and you can type < (angle bracket) to select an operator (<in>, <and>, <or>, <not>).
- Select a language for your query from the Query Language list.
- In the Search in list, select the appropriate check boxes to specify the patent collections that you want to search. To select all patent collections, click the Patents & Patent Applications check box.
- To save this query, on the toolbar click Save Query. In the Save Query dialog box, type the name of the query, and then click Save.
- Click Analyze to generate the technology profile.
To clear a query at any time, on the toolbar click Clear Query.
Using synonyms and ontology sets
When you submit a query for processing,

- Click Synonyms & Ontology at the right of the query box.
