Editing the cause-effect model

Undoing and redoing changes

To undo a change made in the model, click Undo on the Edit menu, or click on the toolbar. To redo a change that was undone, click Redo on the Edit menu, or click .

To select one or more elements

  1. On the toolbar, click .
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To select a single model element, click the desired element.
    • To select multiple elements, hold down the Shift key while clicking each one. Or use  (Pointer)  to drag a selection rectangle over an area to select the enclosed elements.

To resize, cut, copy, or delete events

To reposition individual events, causal links, or AND links in the window

  1. On the toolbar, click .
  2. Click and drag the desired model element to a new location.

When you move an event, its links remain attached. However, when you move a link, it is detached from the events.

To modify or delete links

To change the color of an event node, a causal link, or an AND link

  1. Click to select the element whose color you want to change.
  2. Click .
  3. In the color palette, click a color to select it.

To change the font of an event label

  1. Right-click the event node, and then click (Font Color) on the toolbar.
  2. In the color palette, click a color to select it.

To change the color of the background

  1. Right-click the background of the graph, and then click (Background Color) on the shortcut menu.
  2. In the color palette, click a color to select it.

Maintaining model integrity

If you have already selected one or more core problems in your cause-effect model, and if you have already saved solutions that are associated with these problems, editing your model modifies the existing problem statements. Because the problem statements are modified, any associated solutions might become invalid.

Exporting the cause-effect model image to a file

You can export the cause-effect model image (or a selection of its elements) to a file of any of the following types:
