Identifying core problems
In the Identify Core Problem step of Root Cause Analysis, you determine which causal events must be resolved to address the undesirable events that you first entered.
The Identify Core Problems step facilitates finding the core problems in a complex cause-effect net, where it is not readily apparent which event or combination of events must be addressed to resolve your undesirable event.
At this step, your objective is to select causal events in your cause-effect model until you see an unbroken path to the undesirable event that you initially entered. The causal events that you identify here become the core problems that focus your subsequent analysis and problem-solving.
If you want to edit your cause-effect model, click Build Cause-Effect Model to return to the previous step.
Click (Cause Finder) in any event node to make Goldfire start the Cause Finder, which starts searching for causes in selected knowledge bases and in any cause-effect models that are stored in My Data.
Click Solve either in the undesirable event node or in a core problem node to begin searching for solutions in selected knowledge bases. Results are shown below, in the Solve the Problem pane.
If an event displays (Core Problem) at the upper left, it means that Goldfire identifies this event as a core problem. To unselect this event as a core problem, click
.
If an event displays at the upper left, it means the event has not been identified as a core problem. To select this event as a core problem, click
.
If an event displays at the upper left, it means that if the associated core event is prevented, this event will also be prevented.
Resolving core problems
You can resolve a core problem by doing either of the following:
- Click Solve in any event node of the cause-effect model.
- Click Solve Problem at the top of the Manage Problems and Solutions panel.
Under Manage Problems and Solutions, the causes that you identified as core problems are listed in the Problems and Solutions table.
