Working with search results

Researcher provides a view of all of the results that were returned for your current query, organized into categories of results (such as Methods, Conditions, Concepts, etc.). The categories of results, in turn, are organized into general category types (such as General Facts, Causes and Effects, Parameters, Consumer Sentiment, etc.)

Use the links under Focused information on to select a general category type. The category type is displayed as a category browser, in which you can browse all the categories that have results that were returned for the selected category type.

In Researcher you can select a particular category whose results you want to display. The results of the selected category are displayed in pages of answers and citations.

You might also see a general category type called Corporate Categories. These categories are displayed if you have created your own customized categories or if your Goldfire administrator has shared custom categories that other users have created.

Use the filters panel at the left of the search results area to filter the display of your search results. The filters are grouped in several categories. To apply one or more filters to your search results, select the check boxes next to the filters that you want to apply.

Click the links under Focused information on to select the general category type containing categories that you want to browse.

The following links display the names of the general category types:

• General Facts
• Parts and Functions
• Parameters
• Causes and Effects
• People & Roles
• Consumer Sentiment displays an overview, a list of the top three sentiments in various categories, and detailed sentiment categories.
• All Results displays all search results that were returned for your current query.
• Corporate Categories displays search results in categories that were created either by you or by other users.

The People & Roles category is hidden by default. To display it, go to your user profile and  select the Show People & Roles Category check box.

• Click one of the links under Focused information on.

All categories belonging to that general category type (except for categories with no answers) are shown as category boxes. Each category box contains a list of the answers that were returned for that category. At the top of the results area is a description of the concept whose results are displayed in the category boxes.

Sometimes Goldfire returns query results for more than one concept. In such cases, the description of the concept includes a list of all the concepts for which results were returned. Click the list, and then select the concept whose category boxes you want to view.

• Click the name of the specific category whose results you want to view. All results for that category are shown in the list of answers and citations at the left.

Goldfire provides users with the opportunity to work with an enhanced, visual representation of  the category types and specific categories associated with documents from a query. This feature enables you  to see the composition of returned search results based on the category types as well as the related categories and answers. To display the Sunburst Viewer:

• If the viewer is minimized and not visible, click   to expand the viewer.
• Click on a link to a general category type to display a visual representation of  the specific categories and answers  within a category type.

You can sort answers in each of the category boxes by export content, alphabetically, and by frequency. Click next to any of the answer boxes to select how you want to sort answers from a particular category

You can export answers from each of the category boxes to a file:

• Click at the top of any of the category boxes
• Click Export Content
• In the Export Results dialog box, select a file type.
• Click Export

When you conduct a multi-term query, Goldfire automatically detects and then splits your query into functional parts. These meaningful parts are displayed as options in drop-down list under Focused Information on, enabling you to browse facts in the documents of your search results that are focused on the concept you selected.

For example: If you search renewable energy consumption, Goldfire recognizes and splits your query into the following distinct, functional parts: renewable energy consumption, renewable energy, consumption. You can click on any of the three options to display the categories and facts for it, and browse the facts in the documents in your search results.

Query splitting for categories is currently only available for queries conducted in English.

When you click a general category link, all categories of results that belong to the category type that you select are shown as a set of category boxes. Each category box contains the set of categorized answers that are returned for your current query.

The title bar of the category box displays the name of the category. Each item in a category box is listed as an answer to an expressed or implied question that is related to your query. The number of documents in which the answer is found is shown in parentheses.

If there are more results than can fit in the category box, click More to expand the box.

• Click the title bar of the category box to view a list of answers and citations that were returned for that category. The list of answers and citations is displayed in the list of answers and citations at the left.
• Click an answer in the category box to view a list of all the answers and citations that were returned for that answer. The list of answers and citations is displayed in the list of answers and citations at the left.
• Move the cursor over an answer in a category box to see the best, most relevant result:

The complete result includes the following:

• Link to the source document
• Name of the knowledge base that contains the source document
• Answer , highlighted
• Citation (snippet) from the document source, with your query words highlighted

Click Summary to view a summary of the source document.

Click Save to save the citation to My Data or to export the citation to a file.

If the Language Pack is installed, you can have your search results translated from one or more languages into the language that you specify. You specify your translation options using the Translation link at the right of the query box.

In the results area, all results in the languages that you chose for translation are translated into the language that you selected.

Search results can be translated into English, French, German, Japanese, and Chinese from the original citations.

To change your translation options

1. At the right of the query box, click the Translation link to open the Translation Options dialog box.
2. From the Translate into list, select the language into which you want your results to be translated.
3. Under Translate from, select the check boxes of the languages that you want translated. Clear the check boxes of the languages that you do not want translated.
